County slide to defeat at Nuneaton

County slid to their third successive away defeat with a disappointing 2-0 reverse at bottom club Nuneaton Town.

Andy Brown gave the home side the lead just before half-time when he outmuscled Jordan Fagbola to nod Simon Forsdick's cross past Ian Ormson, coming after a first half in which a lethargic County threatened very little and never really looked like scoring.

That was aside from new boy Connor Jennings, signed on loan from Scunthorpe Utd as we revealed earlier this week, who spurned a glorious chance to open the scoring in the first minute of the match when his free header from Sean Newton's cross floated wide.

The game was taken beyond County's reach when James Tunnicliffe hauled down Gareth Dean in the box, and Adam Walker smashed home the penalty.

County's play improved in the second half, dominating the majority without creating anything in terms of scoring chances or anything to trouble Boro stopper Adam Smith.

The defeat sees The Hatters slide to 13th in the division, with a frustrated Jim Gannon looking for a reaction from his players in next Saturday's FA Trophy tie with Ossett Town at Edgeley Park.

Previews, team news and all the rest involved with that Ossett match will be available on Vital Stockport within the next week.

1st Half we had 75% of the play creating no more than a handfull of half chances and I'm being generous there. As for improving in the 2nd half, it was probably the worst display of football I have seen for a long while definately on a par with the worst of last season and dominating!!! well i'm not sure what game you were watching but it wasnt County. Ormson is the only player that could come away with any sort of credit from this game because if it hadnt been for him it could of easily been 4. Back to the drawing board Jim.

There will be more bad days but hopefully mostly good days this season. Top 10 finish and I will be well chuffed.
