Brave Baker Brace Not Enough

2 - 2

Huish Park

12th September/3pm

Attendance: 3109

Brave Carl Baker struck a brace for County today as the Hatters ended up coming away from Yeovil with a 2-2 draw and a point against the 10-man Glovers.

Baker put County ahead from the spot when on loan striker Nick Bignall was brought down by 'keeper McCarthy, who was sent for en early bath.

Yeovil striker Gavin Tomlin levelled when he slid the ball home after good play from Nathan Jones.

Baker, who was given a signed card by all the County fans at the full time whistle, then put County ahead again with a screamer from just outside the penalty area.

County looked to be holding onto three precious points in Somerset against the 10 men, but Yeovil battled back and equalised just short of the 70th minute mark when substitute Sam Williams powered home a bullet header after a good cross from Ryan Mason.

So all in all, Gary Ablett will probably be disappointed his young side couldn't claim the three points, but how can the post match limelight be on anything other than the bravest man in Huish Park today, Carl Baker?

A highly emotional day for Baker, whose older brother Mike passed away only days ago.

And as the former Morecambe man struck home the penalty as if there was no pressure at all, a fantastic and emotional celebration followed.

'Bakes' ran over to the sideline as the whole County line up followed, and as he held aloft a specially made shirt in tribute to his brother, the whole of Huish Park applauded.

And as the final whistle went, manager Gary Ablett sent Baker over to the County faithful to receive a massive card to show the Hatters fans support.

More post-match reaction as we get it.

Carl Baker, you complete legend.

I know it has been said 100 times by others but Well done Carl. You have cemented a place in the hearts of the County faithful. Just hope you are still a County player after January.
