County v Pics Cup Preview
And so it came to pass that Gainsborough Trinity were kicked out of the F.A. Cup for fielding an ineligible player, and Rushall Olympics were re-instated and now visit Edgeley Park.
It can only be FA Cup Qualifying round 3 time!
Of course, County will win. That is something I do not think I have written for 3 or 4 years but so flushed with the avalanche of 8 goals in two games and the manner in which those games have been won, how could anyone think otherwise?
So just who are Rushall Olympic, the lambs to the slaughter?
Well the 'Pics' hail from near Walsall and play in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier Premier Division. Which for scholars of the non-league game is where County would be playing next season if we drop out of the Skrill North.
Hmmm.... perhaps I should exercise a note of caution here.
Rushall Olympic (resplendent in their orangey-coloured tops and black shorts - not the red and white away kit please) will no doubt be fired up for this one.
This is a club that appears to be moving slowly forward and despite a long history going back to 1893 this tie will be one of the biggest games in the clubs' history. If the Pics defeat County it will equal the furthest the cub has progressed in the FA Cup (they managed this feat in 2007-8 and 2011-12)
They are not without notable former players. Zat Knight - Fulham, WBA, Bolton Villa and England (no really!) - played for the club in 1999.
Despite knowing a little bit more about Rushall Olympic I still predict a narrow victory for County and progression into Q4 of the F.A. Cup, where we may meet Macclesfield, Chester and the other Conference Premier sides.
So if you can please get down to Edgeley Park for the 3pm kick off tomorrow (Sat 12th October). Admission prices very reasonable:
Concessions (Senior, Disabled, Disabled Carer, Student, 16-21) £5
Under 16 £2
Under 10's £1
