County ready for Boston
County start their Blue Sq... sorry Skrill North campaign tomorrow, Sat 17th August, 3 pm at Edgeley Park.
It is Boston United who we face, a team we faced a few seasons ago in League Two, and to be honest, after their trials and tribulations, a team I did not think County would be playing again for a long time.
How times change. Part-time regional football is here.
I am not sure whether I am in the minority but I really think we have 'bottomed out' at last and will have a much better season this time around. Whether that means promotion at the first attempt I am not convinced.
Many County fans expect no less but for me, my strategy for enjoying County 2013-14 is to manage my own expectations.
Win more than we lose. Score a few goals. Have a strong record at home and entertain the fans. Surely, surely this is not too much to ask?
Will the fans turn out this season? Our County poll suggests we are split into two camps; those who think gates to be 2100 to 2400 and those who think gates will exceed 2700.
Anyway, those first game of the season butterflies are back and I am predicting a narrow 1-0 win to get the County bandwagon rumbling forward.
Below is the rallying call from the gaffer (my United supporting wife got this and now me - not sure how that works!)
Come on County!
[From Ian Bogie]
Dear County Fan,
No fan deserves to go through what you've been through. From the Championship to the Skrill North in the blink of an eye.
As a fan, you can (and no doubt do) reflect on County's fall from grace. As County's manager, it's my job to halt the decline and play my part in giving you a
team to be proud of.
That starts now, and the buck stops with me.
Over the summer I, along with Alan Lord and Terry Mitchell, have targeted players with a winning mentality.
We now have a team with options up front that scores goals and, in Kristian Dennis, we have a young man who can't stop scoring them! Ian Craney and Jamie Hand bring
steel to the centre of the park, and in defence we've added the likes of Kyle Jacobs who simply gets on with his job and does it very well.
This team will run through brick walls for me, for each other, and most importantly for you.
Your great support hasn't been rewarded in recent years, and it's my job to redress that balance starting at 3pm this Saturday at Edgeley Park where we take on Boston
I hope you'll join me and witness the start of the rise of Stockport County.
You deserve no less. It's time to come out of the shadows.
