Bogie's County Coming together?
Ian Bogie and Alan Lord continue to build the new Stockport County.
So, welcome Stephen O'Halloran who joins County from Nuneaton Town and brings with him Football League experience from stints at Wycombe, Coventry and Carlisle and is a left back by trade. Wikipedia tells us O'Halloran has two caps for the Republic of Ireland and started his football career in England at Aston Villa.
In fact that Wikipedia article is quite illuminating, quite a few clubs have seen something in the player and at 6' 1' County may have got themselves a player with presence who could move with the club up through the leagues. (optimistic County goggles on)
I wonder if this is a player who somehow lost his way after early promise and I further wonder whether Bogie and Lord are the team to re-ignite his career?
Player sales over the coming season or two may be so crucial to the future of the club and could O'Halloran be a source of income in 12 months time?
The second signing is a player from FC United (who are some kind of splinter outfit from another local club. Or something.). His name is Kyle Jacobs and is another defender and is highly rated by fans of FCUoM.
Bogie is on record saying 'Kyle is a strong, powerful, athletic player and will be a great asset to the team. Our supporters will see that he fits in with the profile of the side we are building'.
Wikipedia has let me down on this signing. He is probably not the American county music singer/song writer, and he isn't the Scottish First division player who is currently at Livingston.
What I have gleaned from here is that 'Right-back Jacobs is a key figure in the FC United team. As skipper, he leads by example in defence and is not frightened of going forward too, making things happen with precision crossing any midfielder would be proud of. Has a cracking shot too.'
I believe also he is no pushover on the field.
So the squad is now beginning to take shape and I cannot help thinking we will be OK this season on the pitch. Maybe just blind optimism and that I am setting myself up for yet another season of woe but my target is that we win more than we lose and surely that is not too much to ask this year? Is it?
