County 1 Newport 0. Thank the Lord.
County earned three precious points at Edgeley Park, beating Newport County by one goal to nil. I had written in the preview that I could not see County getting more than a point.
Any optimistic thoughts I had of a County win were snuffed out by the thought of a highly placed Newport side, bang on form, against a Stockport County at sixes and sevens with their 27th managerial appointment in the last few years (or so it feels).
A certain lack of Animo and Fide on my part then!
Ian Bogie and Alan Lord sent out a side full of commitment and graft and a starting X1 that looked more sensible to me. So step forward;
Sheridan (Nolan - 72' )
Whitehead (Schofield - 75' )
Cullen (Hackney - 89' )
and take a bow. No, not you Cirak.
Oh and a special mention to Newport player Minshull for it was he who scored the only goal on the hour.
Wierdly and for the first time in ages, once we had scored I had another feeling. Not the feeling of freezing to death. Not the feeling that an assassin was about to strike in the Main stand (OK, I'll drop that now). No, I had the feeling that we were not going to lose. Incredible. Just like fortress Edgeley of years gone by. OK, Newport hit the woodwork in the last few minutes but this County side had my confidence.
So thanks are due to new gaffer Ian Bogie but probably more so to Alan Lord who must have had a massive influence on Saturdays starting line-up.
Have we now got a managerial duo who can take the club forward in the months to come?
County are nowhere near out of the woods given Hyde and Lincoln's victories but my Animo and Fide levels are definitely on the way up.
We do need to sort out the striker options we have though. Welcome back Hobson? And when can we get Hattersley back?
Anyway, Macc away on Saturday. Come on the County boys!
