Danny O'Donnell Wishes County Well

Ex Stockport County defender Danny O'Donnell has wished his former club well in a first interview with the North West Evening Mail.

O'Donnell, a former County captain, left County to join Barrow after getting limited first team opportunites.

Danny joined County on loan in 2011 and played a part in the revival, but ultimately was part of the team that ended up getting relegated from the Football League into the Conference.

He was liked by fans though for his effort and committment to the cause, and signed permanently in June.

He made 34 appearances last season, but one ongoing thing with O'Donnell was his tendency to pick up a niggly injury that was hard to clear.

"I`d had a couple of niggly injuries including a bit of tendonitis in my heel which kept me out for a couple of games in September," he said.

"That`s why I originally didn`t play and when I returned the manager decided he would give a different (central defensive) partnership a try.

Gannon had started playing Tunnicliffe and Fagbola/Joe Connor, which kept O'Donnell out of the team.

"It`s not for me to say whether that worked out for the best or not, but I felt my opportunities at Stockport were limited and that I did enough to deserve a starting place in the team.

"When it became apparent I wasn`t going to get that after I felt I had earned the right, any player will tell you they need to play football.'

We thank Danny for his efforts and wish him all the best at Barrow and in his future Footballing career.

Good luck to the lad and thanks for all his efforts, shame about his injuries and on return didn't fit in with JG's plans.

I wish we still had him. I have no confidence in either Fagbola or Connor at centre half.

Agree NE, clean sheets are going to be as rare as (insert crude metaphor here). Good luck to the lad.
