Stockport County appoint complete unknown

Stockport County have today announced the appointment of Darije Kalezic as manager.

Darije Kalezic has come completely out of left field, with previous links to Ryan McKnight through Guus Hiddink - making it no surprise it would be somebody that was known to McKnight despite him only being in the role a week (although he doesn't start till the 1st February).

He played for FK Velež Mostar in his homeland Bosnia, and then moved to the Netherlands as player for FC Den Bosch, RKC Waalwijk, AGOVV Apeldoorn, De Graafschap - before he retired in 2006.

After spending time as manager of De Graafschap he had a short spell at Zulte Waregem before being sacked after just six months in charge.

He was apparently lined up to be one of the coaches as Guus Hiddink was lined up to take charge of Chelsea but Kalezic seeked work elsewhere as a manager.

What worries most County fans is his apparent lack of knowledge of the English Lower Leagues and the huge gamble that has been taken by the board as we enter February still in a relegation battle.

However we wish Darije all the best in charge - good luck.

I was gutted to see JG go, I believed along with many others that he was the man for County. However hes gone and we must move on and get behind the team and the new man. It would help if I Knew how to pronounce his name. The only constant in football is the supporters who all have differing views on how the club and or team should be run. The one thing that binds us together as supporters is that we want the best for our club. Jims gone, we move on, come on County - "Darije Kalezics Blue & White Army"

Who? Just how much clout has McKnight got at this club? Ought to rename us as FM County (quite easy really). As NE says we all have a common goal just not sure which end they want to score in. Good to hear Lordy's still with us (for now).

We need Lord more than ever now to bridge the gap in culture between muck and bullets Conference football and total football that I am sure Dariuz.. er.. Daritzski... um. Darijovan... DK will bring us. Quite a risk. In DK we hope.

Must admit my heart sank when I heard who Countys new manager was , I guess I was expecting some one with a few years experience at this level. I only hope that our new gaffer is as successful as out preivous foreign manager was. Whatever will be will be, keep the faith - COME ON COUNTY !
